Free admission on Sundays during the month of July!

HEARD MUSEUM KEEPS VISITORS COOL DURING FREE* SUMMER SUNDAYS IN JULY

Activities include Super Hero kids' crafts, artist demonstrations and Native performances

Families looking to beat the heat this summer can stop by the Heard Museum in Phoenix for free admission* each Sunday in July with fun super hero activities for kids, cultural performances and artist demonstrations.
 
During the Heard’s Free* Summer Sundays, July 5, 12, 19 and 26, visitors can enjoy the museum’s cool air conditioning as well as explore the Native art, history and culture throughout the museum.
 
Located at 2301 N. Central Ave, across from the Encanto Boulevard Valley Metro Light Rail stop, the museum is open every Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. *General admission is free on Summer Sundays, with a $5 per person gate fee charged for admission to the exhibit, Super Heroes: Art! Action! Adventure! General adult admission to the museum this summer is normally $18.
 
Visitors can also enjoy the museum’s 12 galleries, shops and café in addition to any of the following activities on Free* Summer Sundays. More information is at: http://heard.org/event/summer-sundays-2. A schedule of activities on each Sunday is below:
 
  • Kids’ Crafts, 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 5, 12, 19 and 26, as part of the family-friendly exhibit, Super Heroes: Art! Action! Adventure! kids of all ages can create their own super hero crafts during every Sunday in July. Kids can create and design their own super hero postcard, decorate their own super hero mask, color dynamic cuffs. Then on July 26, kids can complete their super hero outfit by creating their own protective emblem.
  • Performances by Native performing artists occur twice each Sunday, at 12:30 p.m. and at 2 p.m.in the Steele Auditorium:
    • July 5: Hoop Dancer Derrick Suwaima Davis (Hopi/Choctaw)
    • July 12: Yellow House Dancers, led by Lane Jensen (Navajo/ Pima-Maricopa)
    • July 19: Native Spirit, led by Brian Hammill (Ho-Chunk)
    • July 26: Yellowbird Indian Dancers, led by Ken Duncan (San Carlos Apache).
  • Demonstrations by Native visual artists occur each Sunday between 11:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.:
    • July 5: Navajo textile weaving by Marilou Schultz
    • July 12: Hopi basket weaving by Janette Chimerica
    • July 19: Apache burden basket work by Anthony Belvado
    • July 26: Hopi pottery by Lucille Maho
 
Heard Museum
Location:         2301 N. Central Ave., Phoenix
Hours:                         9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, every day except Thanksgiving Day, Dec. 25, Easter Sunday and July 4.
Cost:                Until Aug. 23: $23 adults, $18.50 for seniors (65+), $12.50 for students with a valid student ID,
                        $12.50 for children ages 6-12. Children 1-5 and American Indians $5. Children age 1 and
                        younger and Heard Museum members are free. ($5 per person gate fee charged for BUILD! exhibit.)
                        After Aug. 23: $18 adults, $13.50 for seniors (65+), $7.50 for students with a valid student ID, $7.50
                        for children ages 6-12. Children 5 and younger (free).  Heard Museum members and American
                        Indians receive free admission.
